This extremely rare vintage Bakelite kilt pin was carved from a a lovely shade of emerald green and yellow colored Bakelite; its unique highly stylized design took me a while to try and figure out, but to me it looks like the maker used the profile of a bird's head as the handle for a wavy bladed dagger as their inspiration. To be honest, I was not sure what the pin was used for until a person who was knowledgeable about kilt pins advised that the pin could be used as a brooch, but its intended purpose was as a pin to keep a Scottish kilt properly closed. I appreciate the information and education. Very unusual inspiration for sure, but still a remarkably beautiful pin and the intricate carving of the birds head and wavy dagger blade are exceptionally well done! It measures 3 5/8" x 7/8" at its widest point. The pin is approximately 3/16 thick and weighs 6 grams. The brooch tests positive for Bakelite using Simichrome polish. (See photo #10) No chips or cracks were seen. The pin has its original rollover "C" clasp that is in perfect working order and stays closed when worn. The item "RARE Vintage Bakelite Kilt Pin!
