Rare Vintage Large Bakelite Giraffe Brooch Sweater Pin Swing Neck 1930s

The neck swings and doesn't stay up which isnt suppose to. Now with that said, hand painted grass and shading are good but on the back side one conical pin out of the two has left it's residence so the pin clasp does move a little. This is the third one so far in searching so who knows how many are out there but thus far, it does seem a bit rare. Update: After answering a few questions about the integrity of this pin, it was noted by a customer that the pin looked wobbly and perhaps has gotten quite loose through time. Because of it's age and seeing others to compare it with, I didn't feel it was in any worse shape aside from the fact that the clasp definitely was compromised due to a missing brad that holds it in securely so that a new nail must be screwed or glued in for the brooch to be secure while wearing.

The neck was indeed meant to swing back and forth and post holding neck to body is secure. There is no movement on neck side and where the nail passes all the way through the body side is intentional so the neck can move freely. Unfortunately, the clasp DOES need a new pin either epoxied in by a professional jeweler or perhaps even using one with threads to make a good secure bond.

That is the only weak link about this piece and why I have dropped the price enormously to compensate for this defect.
