Vintage Bakelite FOX DOG Pin Brooch Overdyed Carved Leather Ears Martha Sleeper

Vintage Butterscotch Bakelite pin of either a fox or a dog. Tail reminds me of fox, as well as the pointy nose, but parts are speaking dog to me as well. The fox's head is riveted on, not glued, giving the pin extra dimensional interest. The tail is heavily carved and dyed. His eyes are painted on, and his leather ears are glued into inset sockets. He has similarities to Martha Sleeper's work, but cannot be certain. He is a nice size at 2.5" tall by 2 1/8" wide by 1/2 thick at head.

His pin back is embedded and the latch and hinge are original to the piece. Overall very good vintage condition. His ears are a tiny bit ragged down by the point they enter pin, but does not detract greatly. Great pin for a collector or a dog lover.
