Vintage Bakelite Horse Dangle Medallion Pin Brooch W Essex Crystal & Wood Inlay

Rare antique bakelite mixed media equestrian pin brooch. This delicate, preppy little number has so much going for it. Transparent prystal apple juice bakelite body. Carved accents on the top bar. Inlaid wood strips form a plaid pattern.

Braided rope lanyard corrals the drop pendant. Topped off with a rare reverse carved and painted Essex type glass crystal dome depicting a sweet brown horse with matching yellow reins. Bakelite tested and confirmed with both the rub and smell & simichrome methods. Hardware appears to be antique brass or antique brass colored. All hardware is riveted on - sure sign of quality craftsmanship. Rare very special high end look and feel. Ready and waiting for your. Or collection - you will love it! Measurements : Aprox 2 3/4" long x 1 3/8" wide, horse crystal is about 1/2 in diameter. Marks : None that I can find. Condition : Acceptable vintage condition given the age and rarity. It is fully intact - but is literally hanging on by a thread. Some of the braiding on each side has unraveled right above where the ropes are bound together.

If this is just going into a collection or for display - I would say it is perfectly fine as is. If you plan on wearing this treasure, I would think about repairing or reinforcing it to make sure it is secure first. There is a tiny chip right above the carving on the bar on the left side, and a small gouge type inclusion near the right bottom corner that is only visible when viewing from certain angles. That very well may be original to the brooch. See last 2 photos for close-ups.

The crystal is in great shape - just some very light wear (only visible with 10x magnification) - no chips or cracks at all. View & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina, and/or wear. Most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of both and, unless severe, aren't considered damaged.
