1930's Game Day Bakelite Pin Brooch. The pin is in excellent condition other then the minor corrosion to the metal pin on back. Please refer to photos as they are part of the description and are better to determine actual condition. 1930s Bakelite'gadget' brooch is attributed to Martha Sleeper and features a football / game day design theme.
The large over dyed (resin washed) carved Bakelite sports whistle suspends 5 carved Bakelite charms. Charms include a megaphone, a helmet, a pennant, a football and a lucky charm (horseshoe) with brass studs. All charms are original and hang from a brass chain. Entire brooch: 2 1/4" x 2 3/4".
Whistle: 2 1/4 across x 5/8 tall. Martha Sleeper made jewelry in the 1930's and 40's. This item (and many like it) can be seen in most Bakelite jewelry identification books.
A great item to add to your collection! NOTE: Resin Washed Bakelite should not be tested with simichrome, as the overdye can be removed. This has been tested by the rub/smell test and the Formula 409 test.
