Offered is this wonderful vintage bakelite horse pin, made circa 1930s-40s. Attributed to Martha Sleeper, it's nicely carved with a glass eye and a somewhat concerned expression on the horse's face. The horse is done in a marbled butterscotch bakelite with a red bakelite collar, decorated with hand-painted tartan stripes in lime green, slate blue, and yellow. The bridle straps and reins are made of brass, and the brooch has an inset pin stem attachment on the back with a rollover safety clasp.
Measures approximately 2 7/8" tall and 2 3/8" at its widest, and it's in very good condition with a little bit of wear on the painted stripes. If you take a good look underneath the horse's chin, there's a small spot with a crack line that has been repaired. The price has been lowered accordingly, although it certainly isn't anything that would be noticeable while worn. The item "Vtg Martha Sleeper Butterscotch Bakelite Horse Pin Brooch Red Collar Glass Eye" is in sale since Monday, May 17, 2021.
