Vtg Modernist Art Deco Faux Tortoise Shell Running Horse Pin Brooch Pendant

I think this is the nicest "running horse brooch" I've ever seen. Certainly the nicest I've ever owned. What is so special about it? To put it simply: it conveys the motion of the horse in a particularly convincing and fluid manner. It conveys motion in three ways: by portraying both the tail and mane of the horse as wind-swept, by showing the two front legs in a gallop, and by suggesting that the horse has attained such a speed that the back two legs appear to be moving as one.

But, don't take my word for just how nice this brooch is. Search for "running horse brooch" or "running horse pin" or, indeed, any comparable title of your choosing and compare the brooches you come up with. There are lots of lovely ones. None, I believe, more lovely than this one.

And, if you find one you prefer, don't stand on ceremony. I promise I will not be offended. What Is The Brooch Made Of?

I assume the brooch is made out of faux tortoiseshell. The only question is what type? There are several possibilities, including acetate, bakelite, celluloid, lucite or some form of resin. I have not had it tested because I think it would irreparably damage the brooch. For me, Its beauty does not depend upon knowing its exact chemical composition.

The brooch is at least 40 to 50 years old, very likely older than that. Depth (to back of pin): 3/8th inch.

Doing so, however, is an irrevocable assertion of ownership. Please don't expect to be able to return such an item.
